Communication, language & literacy

Speaking, listening, reading and writing are crucial to children's early development. Showing children the importance of language through fun activities and encouraging them to engage with a wide range of texts helps to ignite a lifelong curiosity for learning.

Mathematics

At an early age, it's important to help children recognise how Mathematics impacts everyday life. Through games and activities, we can introduce children to Mathematical language, thinking and concepts that they will need when they start their primary education

Personal, social & emotional development

This area underpins children’s wellbeing and attainment in all other areas of their learning. It helps them to develop social learning and friendships, regulate their emotional responses and respond to the needs of others, and develop self-esteem and confidence.

Understanding the world

Children’s natural curiosity must be encouraged, so that they are equipped to reflect, question, explore and interact, and guided in their understanding of the world. This area of the curriculum lays foundations for a range of different subjects in primary education and beyond, including science, digital literacy, history and geography

Oral Communication

Oral Communication in early childhood is the foundation of education. Regularly talk, sing and read books to children. Use real language, but talk more slowly, emphasising key words and use shorter phrases, more repetition, gestures and facial expression, and a higher pitch. Focus conversation on what infants and toddlers are looking at, and what they are interested in.

LSRW way of Learning abilities are Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. With regards to acquiring the Learning abilities, LSRW way of Learning skills are regularly gained by listening first followed by speaking, reading and writing.

Numeracy - (Number, Measure, Geometry, Data Handling, Problem-Solving.)

Numeracy helps understanding and engage with the world, from everyday tasks as managing money and following recipes to analysing data and solving problems. It is fundamental skill that used in every aspect of life. Numeracy is the foundation for many other subjects.

Science - Students will think scientifically and develop practical skills alongside knowledge and understanding, which is vital for explaining the world around us. Improving learners’ awareness of science in the world around them develops their sense that ‘science is for me’, helping to connect themselves to the subject. This curriculum covers six main areas called ‘strands’ that work together so that students can learn science holistically:

• Biology – living things and how they interact.
• Chemistry – the study of matter.
• Physics – the interaction of matter and energy.
• Earth and Space – planet Earth, the wider Solar System and beyond.
• Thinking and Working Scientifically – develops understanding and skills of scientific models and representations, scientific enquiry and practical work.
• Science in Context – helps teachers demonstrate the relevance of science to learners and unique to our science curriculum.

Alongside these core subjects, there are additional subjects which is included in the curriculum :

Second Language (Hindi/French)

• 1. Hindi is in the curriculum as second language for fosters linguistic diversity and encourage students to be multilingual. This not only helps them communicate effectively but also broadens their horizons.
• 2. French is in the curriculum as it the second most popular language spoken throughout the world.

Music

The creative process of composing or improvising music encourages students to think outside the box, explore new ideas, and express themselves artistically.

Art and Design

Art and Design considers expression and communication. Learners gain an understanding of visual perception and aesthetic experience, and the ways in which art and design creates a language of its own.

Digital Literary (IT)/Computing

Computing has deep links with mathematics, science, and design and technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems.

Global Perspectives

Global Perspectives is a unique skills-based subject, undertaken by Cambridge Primary students around the world. It focuses on encouraging children to think globally, covering topics like working with other countries, sharing planet Earth and moving goods and people.

Physical Education

PE plays a vital role in the academic curriculum as it helps students to maintain a healthy lifestyle and achieve their full potential in other areas of study, improve academic performance, reduce stress, and boost self-esteem.

These subjects are designed to enrich children’s schooling experience, providing them with a set of varied and transferable skills, which they will carry with them throughout their lives.
